Why make your own home products?
Avoid toxic ingredients
If you look at the ingredient list of your store-bought, conventional cleaning supplies or home products, can you pronounce all of the ingredients? Do they sound like natural ingredients or chemicals?
When we did this exercise, we were shocked by the number of synthetic ingredients we were using in our home. How was this affecting our health?!
We began looking up our products on the Environmental Working Group’s database. It’s a fantastic resource to learn what the ingredients in your products are used for and how they rate them.
For example, a conventional soap may look something like this:
If you make your own hand soap with Castile soap—the main ingredient in our hand soap recipe—you’ll find a much higher score. Yay!
2. Less single-use waste
Conventional products are almost always in single-use plastic pumps or spray bottles—adding to our landfills. When we make our own products, we can buy higher-quality containers and reuse them over and over again.
Buying our ingredients in bulk vs. a smaller size will also reduce the amount of waste!
3. More economical

So much cheaper than store-bought products with comparable non-toxic ingredients.
