Girl, get rid of that makeup!

Girl, get rid of that makeup!

Don’t cover up that beautiful face, go all natural!

For the majority of makeup brands, it’s a double whammy if we’re talking about the amount of garbage that’s created. Nasty ingredients inside a single-use, non recyclable container. It’s bad for the environment and your skin.

What makes the common beauty containers (think pumps, applicators, and mirrors) single-use is their tiny detailed parts that aren’t recyclable–making the entire thing non recyclable. (There isn’t someone at the recycle center unscrewing all the mascara applicators or concealer pumps to recycle the bottom, and if there is, bless their hearts!) This article, by Refinery 29, breaks down the details about common beauty containers.

After becoming more aware of all the waste beauty products create, I decided to go cold-turkey and get rid of all makeup. But if you aren’t ready to give up your beauty routine and still want to be conscious of the environment, do your research. There’re many beauty companies wanting to do better for the environment and their consumer’s skin–it just takes a bit of searching. Make sure to question not only their packaging, but also their ingredients. Some brands have chosen to go zero-waste or create their containers with 100% post-consumer recycled plastic, while others have refillable makeup containers or entirely recyclable eye shadow palettes.

There’s a shift happening with some beauty companies to be friendlier to the environment and your face, but we still have a long ways to go! If you’re wanting to clean up your beauty routine, but aren’t ready to DIY all your products, this article is a good starting point.

Cheers to healthy skin, a healthy environment, and showing off your beautiful face!
